Last week was a disappointing one for me. I was up for a promotion at work-didn’t get it. I was nominated for an alumni University award (for the third time)-didn’t get that either.
It was disheartening, if I’m frank. However, my wonderful boyfriend provided me with an invaluable and inspiring nugget of wisdom:
Your time will come.
There is a lot of pressure to be successful. The media is constantly hyping up young and successful entrepreneurs, then they publish those “Most Influential” “Top 30 Under 30” lists. It’s inevitable that at some point you will look at yourself and feel like a bit of a failure next to all those wonderfully successful people.
All I can say is, don’t ponder on the disappointments or compare yourself to others. Instead, heed the hand-me-down nuggets of wisdom: focus on the moment, on what you enjoy and network like crazy. Eventually your time will come. For some of us, it just takes a bit longer to get there 🙂
Bottom line: Keep working hard and recognition will come.
Sorry to hear about GUAA award nomination. I have seen your volunteer work and, if it is any consolation, you are one of the most deserving recipients. Hope this helps a little.
Hope your time comes asap!
