The sun is shining in London! After months and months of dull grey skies, summer has finally arrived. During lunch and dinner, it’s the most amazing thing ever. You can sit outside on a terrace and walk around with sandals.

Sometimes, however, the heat can get unbearable, like in the morning when you’re sweating bullets on the tube or at night when you’re trying to sleep with no A/C. It’s quite frankly, miserably hot. And boy, some people really complain about it.

Which brings to mind a nugget of wisdom handed down by one of my most loyal readers (and the former President of the Georgetown Club of Spain). In response to an exasperated complaint I made, he said:

Just deal with it.

Often, things do not go our way. Instead of whining about it, just accept it and move on. For example, if it’s too hot on the tube, take the river bus instead. If it’s too hot in your room, then get a big fan. It’s true that this kind of heat in London is stifling, but there’s not much we can do about it, so just deal with it.

Brilliant advice that we should all apply to our professional lives as well. If you are unhappy because you didn’t get a promotion, if you are bored with your projects, or if you don’t like your boss…just deal with it! Find yourself another job or ask for a new assignment  But please don’t sit around and moan about it. If you can’t change it, just accept it and move on.

Bottom line: There’s no point in complaining, best to deal with it and move on.
