It’s New Year’s, yet again. I never make resolutions, mostly because I am no good at keeping them. This year, however, I have decided to make one. I have a little project that I’ve been mulling on for several months. Now that I have a new laptop, I have no excuse not to do it, and that’s my resolution for 2013. I will reveal more details in due time, but suffice it to say I’m excited about it!

Last year’s 2012 nugget of wisdom was to Think Outside the Box. This year I am handing down a nugget from someone introduced to me by a close family friend, who was of great assistance to me during my job search.

Work hard and focus on the moment. It will get you further.

This man was once President of Levi’s Europe, so he has enough experience to know what he’s talking about. Mr. Levis says that it’s good to have an idea of what you want to do, but keep an open mind and be flexible. If you’re too focused, you become too politicized. MBA’s are particularly prone to this. They are so driven by their future success that they lose sight of the present. Yes, you need a plan, but pay attention to what’s at hand. That is more important.

Bottom line: Focus on the ‘right now’.

P.S. I wanted to share with you this cute cartoon (from Mahoney Joe that cheers me up every morning with their daily cartoons) which shows 2012’s nugget in a whole other light.
